The ZeroClamp zero point clamping system is designed to provide a retention force of 25000N per clamping cylinder. This force is applied throughout the angle in which the clamping bolt is pulled in by the locking unit. The angle could also be reduced down in to the self-locking range. This way, in event of a breakdown, the system could only be released by destroying it. But 25000N are more than enough, as common machine tools (X-distance c. 800mm) have a typical retention force of 7000-10000N.
What then would happen during malfunctions or system breakdowns (such as when someone drills too deep and hits a connection cable)? In such a case, ZeroClamp provides the option of removing the stage with jacking screws or other tools. This way the ZeroClamp zero point clamping system will not be damaged and will be able to continue working afterwards. Likewise, the lock will release in the event of a crash (depending on the angle of impact), which potentially could prevent the main spindle from breaking down.
